Story: Nikita Kruschev
It takes more than learning or legalism, it takes the supernatural work of the Holy Ghost in our lives to make us live as Christians.
God deals with the individual as He has dealt with the church, in three stages, Justification, Sanctification, the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, and then the fourth stage is the Holy Ghost itself.
Notice, here, the Life that was in the husk. In the stalk, and in the tassel, in the husk, all gathers in the Seed. And the Life that was in the stalk, went, one went to make the other.
Justification, made a way for sanctification; sanctification, made a way for the baptism of the Holy Ghost; the baptism of the Holy Ghost, made a way for the Holy Ghost Itself to come right down in perfection, back to the Word again, to manifest Itself. 64-0705 - The Masterpiece
It was the Holy Ghost in all three stages, Justification, Sanctification and Holy Ghost Baptism.
Justification served its time, in justification under Luther, then it had to become sanctification through Wesley. And sanctification served its time, till it become the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
And the baptism of the Holy Ghost served its time; until the Holy Spirit (which, there’s only one God) blends into the Church, and the Church into Christ, and it makes Jesus Christ reflected on the earth, what He promised here in the Bible. 63-1229M - "There Is A Man Here That Can Turn On The Light"
It is possible to be justified and sanctified without receiving the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, but if you are the seed of God, you will receive the seal of the Holy Ghost. Judas did not, because he was the son of perdition.
1 John 5:7 KJV 1900
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
1 John 5:8 KJV 1900
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
Now notice. The first three are One. The second three are earthly, which agree in one. Cannot have the Father without the Son; you cannot have the Son without having the Holy Ghost. But you can have the water without the Blood, and the Blood without the Spirit.
(Natural birth is the type)
And so is it in the spiritual realm. It’s water; justification by faith, believing on God, receiving Him as your personal Saviour, and being baptized.
Second, is sanctification of the spirit, that God cleanses the spirit from all elements of the world, and the desire of the world. And then the Holy Spirit comes in and gives new Birth and fills up that sanctified vessel.
Now, a glass is laying out in the chicken yard. You don’t just pick that up and put on your table and fill it up with water or milk. No. By picking it up, is justification.
Cleansing it, is sanctification, ’cause the Greek word sanctify is a compound word, which means “cleansed, and set aside for service.” Not in service; for service. Then when you fill it, it is put in service. 65-0124 — Birth Pains

Sanctification in the Bible

Genesis 2:3 KJV 1900
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Sanctified (heb) apartness, sacredness (opp. חֹל) — 1. apartness, sacredness, holiness, of God.
Exodus 29:37 KJV 1900
37 Seven days thou shalt make an atonement for the altar, and sanctify it; and it shall be an altar most holy: whatsoever toucheth the altar shall be holy.
God is Holy, He is set apart, so anything dedicated to Him must be cleansed and set apart.
The word is used in the Old Testament of people and things.
Exodus 29:44 KJV 1900
44 And I will sanctify the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar: I will sanctify also both Aaron and his sons, to minister to me in the priest’s office.
They had to be dressed in a certain way. (Pomegranate and Bell)
Leviticus 8:6 KJV 1900
6 And Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water.
Leviticus 8:10 KJV 1900
10 And Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was therein, and sanctified them.
Leviticus 8:11 KJV 1900
11 And he sprinkled thereof upon the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all his vessels, both the laver and his foot, to sanctify them.
Leviticus 8:12 KJV 1900
12 And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron’s head, and anointed him, to sanctify him.
Leviticus 8:14 KJV 1900
14 And he brought the bullock for the sin offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the bullock for the sin offering.
Sanctification was by blood. No amount of scrubbing could make something clean enough to serve God’s purpose.
Leviticus 8:15 KJV 1900
15 And he slew it; and Moses took the blood, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about with his finger, and purified the altar, and poured the blood at the bottom of the altar, and sanctified it, to make reconciliation upon it.
Solomon’s temple was sanctified by Jehovah:
2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV 1900
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:15 KJV 1900
15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
2 Chronicles 7:16 KJV 1900
16 For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
In Jesus time the Pharisees and Sadducees had defiled the sanctification of the House of the Lord, He ran them out of the temple and sanctified it.
Paul does the same for the Spiritual temple:
1 Corinthians 6:19 KJV 1900
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
The modern church teaches sanctification as optional, it is not. He will not dwell in a dirty house.
Hebrews 12:14 KJV 1900
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
To be justified and sanctified is to be a partaker of heavenly things.
Hebrews 6:4 KJV 1900
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Hebrews 6:5 KJV 1900
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
Hebrews 6:6 KJV 1900
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
They have come through Justification and Sanctification:
Hebrews 10:28 KJV 1900
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Hebrews 10:29 KJV 1900
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
The Nazarenes, Pilgrim Holiness and others did this very thing. So do many so called believers today.

Sanctification as a part of the new birth is not a work of man but a work of grace. It is a work of the Holy Spirit.

That is why we don’t call you to the altar three different times for three different works of grace. Faith in Christ alone calls you to repentance, baptism, sanctification and the token.
We are sanctified by His will.
Hebrews 10:9 KJV 1900
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
Hebrews 10:10 KJV 1900
10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Hebrews 10:11 KJV 1900
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
Hebrews 10:12 KJV 1900
12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
Hebrews 10:13 KJV 1900
13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
Hebrews 10:14 KJV 1900
14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
And when we were sinners, alienated, without God; in the world, in that muck of mud, as I talked about this morning, God come to us! God sought you, you never sought God. “No man can come to Me except the Father draws him first.”
And God came down in that muck, what you were, and sought you out and brought you out! That ought to create a Perfect Love.
Look what you was, and look what you are. What did that? Somebody that loves you! Can’t you have faith in what He’s promised you, then? Real genuine love will create a confidence in His Word. 63-0825E — Perfect Faith

Sanctification of the Spirit

Sanctification is not just choosing to quit smoking or drinking, it is a cleansing of our spirit realm, and of the mind.
Then, secondly, comes sanctification, which sets our mind in order for holiness, to think right.
Then, the next, comes the baptism of the Fire and Holy Ghost, that God might dwell in us. And the Fire of God cleanses our hearts from sin, and puts the Holy Ghost inside. Then we bring forth the same Life that This did, because That’s in us. 64-0802 — The Future Home Of The Heavenly Bridegroom And The Earthly Bride
A man can repent of sins and he is still thinking of…Well, maybe he’s a immoral man, every immoral looking woman he finds, is still there. Maybe he’s a drunkard; every time he smells the drink, it’s still there.
But then when he gets sanctified, that cleanses that desire out of him. See? It takes the want of it away. He can still be tempted, but He takes the want of it away. Still, he’s not right yet.
Then, he is baptized with the Holy Ghost and Fire. Cleansed, burnt out, cleaned up; and then put into the service of God. Sanctification only sets them aside for service. 64-0802 — The Future Home Of The Heavenly Bridegroom And The Earthly Bride
Mary Magdalene didn’t know she had 7 devils.
Well, now, when you get that kind of spirit on you, or men, you get out here and start lusting for women, it’s a…You say, “Well, it’s human nature.” Not like that. See? No, it’s a spirit. The Bible said it was a spirit. That’s right.
So, the thing to do then, the Blood of Jesus Christ cleanses you from lust and passion, called sanctification. The word sanctification means, “to be cleaned and set aside for service.”
Now, that lust spirit leaves you, under sanctification. Let a little lady, nice, goes to church, she sings in the choir, but she has to mow her grass with a little pair of shorts on. Let her get sanctified one time, and let her put on a pair. See.
Let that man, that’ll almost have a wreck looking at that woman in the yard, and let him get sanctified one time, and go down the street, he’ll keep his mind on what he’s doing.
That’s exactly right. If he gazes sideways, he’ll turn his head this way. The Holy Spirit says, “Turn your head.” That’s it. See. There you are. See. That’s right. That’s sanctification. 54-0516 — Questions And Answers (Law Having A Shadow)

The Ongoing Work of Sanctification.

You might say “I know I’ve been born again, my sins are forgiven, my life has changed”. Still there is an ongoing work of sanctification, because we live in these flesh bodies. We apply that Token to our lives. the Bride makes herself ready.
We are continually sanctified by the washing of the water of the Word.
These are not works to be saved, they are works because we are saved.
Jesus was sanctified by the Father, yet He sanctified Himself.
John 10:36 KJV 1900
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
God set Him apart.
John 17:18 KJV 1900
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
John 17:19 KJV 1900
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
If He sanctified Himself after He was sanctified by the Father, what will we do if His Spirit dwells in us?
(1 cor 9:27) Paul sanctified himself.
Jesus, in His prayer, said, “Father, I sanctify Myself.” Jesus become sanctified, to the Church. He could have gotten married, but He didn’t do it. He become sanctified. He said, “Sanctify them, Father, through the Truth. Thy Word is the Truth.”
Now let’s lay aside every weight. You got a temper? You got something about you, makes you talk when you ought not to talk? O God! Lay it there now. Lay it there, watch the Fire of the altar come down and take it away. Watch the love of God lick it up.
Watch all that old selfishness, the way you been talking to your wife, the way you been talking to your husband, the way you been talking to your neighbor, the way you’ve talked about the people in the church, lay it on the altar this morning, and the Fire of God will come down and take it right away, and Divine love will burn in its place. 55-0724 — Enticing Spirits
He possessed every gate of temptation. Oh, how He did! He was a Man, He was a Man like you are, like I am. He had a right to be married, He had a right to have a home, He had a right to the things that we have, He had a right to have clothes.
He could have done it, a Man that could turn water into wine, that could know where a coin was in a fish’s mouth, why, He owned the heavens and earth, but yet He abstained from those things.
The sweetest words in the Bible when He said, “Father, I sanctify Myself that I might sanctify them.” What was He trying to do? Set an example. He was sending twelve man out with a Gospel that would conquer the world, and He’s depending on you and I to do it.
If He could sanctify Himself like that, why, ought we to set aside every failure, and every doubt, and everything else, and sanctify ourselves! 61-0213 - And Thy Seed Shall Possess The Gate Of His Enemies
What was He doing? He was training up twelve disciples that were going to preach the Gospel in all the world. He put an example.
And brethren, as ministers, I tell you it pays us, not to get too much of the world’s goods and things hanging around us. You preachers I’m talking to. Sanctify yourself for them that you’re going to lead.
That’s what we need today, is a complete consecrated, sanctified life of ministers, that walk upright before God, does not entangle with the things of the world. Keep away from it. 60-0611B - Fellowship
He was God’s wrapped gift, keeping Himself sanctified for our sake.
Oh, gifts of God, you people who claim that you’ve received His Spirit, keep yourself sanctified. Yes. Keep away from the things of the world, be sanctified. 60-1225 - "God's Wrapped Gift"
(Don Ruddell and his legalist church)
Oh, Jesus was training twelve men, that through those twelve men was to take the Gospel to the world. And He said, “For their sake I sanctify Myself.” Make yourself for your neighbor’s sake, for somebody else’s sake.
“Don’t use your liberty for a cloak,” said Paul, “but sanctify yourself!” Behave yourself in the neighborhood, like a real Christian ought to. Let your communications be, if you meet your enemy, sanctify yourself for his sake, not knowing what you might do. 60-0522M — Adoption #3
Bro. Branham had to sanctify himself.
After praying for three or four days, so I got in such a place, going around, and thinking, “O God,” and I got in such a place till I didn’t know what to do. I said, “God, we’re at the end of the road. And I realize that I’ve neglected.
I’ve had calls to go on, and be tired, and wouldn’t do it.” I thought then I could see my Lord staggering through the dark yonder, when He was so tired He could hardly raise one foot after the other one, but He wasn’t too…
(Widow of Nain’s son)
“Well, how did I get tired? What’s the matter with me, Lord? Here I think, ‘Well, I’m getting old. I can’t do it.’”
(Moses and Caleb)
I said, “Well, looky here, I’m always…” And I took my wife (back there) by the hand, across this Bible and her little Bible, and I said, “Honey, I’ve been too negative. The Holy Spirit condemns me within me.”
(Hattie Wright, first second and third pull)
I said, “Honey, I take your hand. By God’s help and God’s grace, never let me be negative again. Let me walk forth to this revival here to preach like never before.
Let me go here, to first sanctify myself, and make a way for the people; that my own sins, my own neglecting be under the Blood, my own shortcomings be under the Blood, that I might walk out and say, ‘Follow me, people.’” That’s right.
(Jeffersonville, Clarksville and Louisville fire co.)
Not, “Spurt a little water here. Spurt a little water there.” Puts you in mind, some of these intellectual preachers.
Come along! Let’s go! I know It’s the Truth. I’ve tasted and seen. Glory! The Holy Ghost is right. God is good. Don’t try here, try there; let’s walk into Him! He’s here.
It’s for you. God gave His Power to His Church. Not spurt out this here, and spurt out; you’ll never get nothing done. Lead on! 59-1217 — What Was The Holy Ghost Given For?

My precious one Well done! well done! My faithful one
